Each year, BMTG choose a specific charity to fundraise for. The choice is usually a cause close to our hearts, either through the local community or a member’s involvement and 2016 was especially personal to the group.
At the start of 2016 we lost Michael Cottee, our Vice President, to myeloma. Michael was one of BMTG’s staunchest supporters, having served over the years as our Chairman, Box Office Manager, Patrons and Subs secretary, Vice Chairman as well as designing and building many of our sets over the years. Michael was a dear friend to many of us and so it was an obvious choice that for 2016 our chosen charity would be Myeloma UK.
Our target for the year was an ambitious £1000 and over the year our members participated in a number of events to raise funds. Chris Bryan underwent a complete transformation in the Great Mop Chop, we ran a pop-up shop and tombola at the Beeston Carnival, 3 of our members ran in the Robin Hood Half Marathon and we organised a coffee morning at the Parish Church, Beeston.
We’re delighted to announce that we ended the year raising a total of £2640.00 for Myeloma UK and I’d like to offer a huge thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored, bought raffle tickets or ate cake at the coffee morning – and of course to our members who gave up their time to participate in the events. This is a huge achievement and I’m incredibly proud of everyone who participated – we smashed it!
