GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS!
50 years ago this week, Beeston Operatic Society performed its first ever production at Round Hill School, Beeston. The show was “White Horse Inn” and the performance dates were the 23rd to the 28th October 1967.
A Gala Performance costing just one guinea (including a buffet supper) on the opening night saw a cast of almost 70 and an orchestra of 18 give the first performance of the society which had been founded in April that year. The cost of the first production was £700!
Our Golden Jubilee year has seen two productions – “All Shook Up” in May and “Spamalot!” which is fittingly being performed this week at The Duchess Theatre, Long Eaton. Both very different to each other and to many of the shows performed over the past 50 years. There have been many changes too within the society since that first performance, not least of all our name as we became Beeston Musical Theatre Group in 2003. However, the changes made were necessary to survive the passage of ever-changing times. What has not changed is the love of musical theatre by all involved and the desire to put on the very best performance we can for our audiences.
In this very special week of our Golden Year, we hope many people will come to see us and help us celebrate our Half Century. Here’s to the next 50 years!
