A sit down with… Mrs Meers
Sandy will be playing the role of Mrs Meers in our upcoming production of Throughly Modern Millie.
We caught up with Sandy during rehearsals to find out how she is finding playing such a crazy character and what her favourite musicals are…
Who are you playing in the show Sandy?
My role in TMM is Mrs Meers, she is the villain of the piece. She is a former actress turned human trafficker pretending to be a kindly Chinese women. She oversees the Hotel Pricilla where she secretly sells her tenants.
What makes you thoroughly modern?
I am not sure what makes me thoroughly modern , I don’t bob my hair but I may have raised my hemline in the past and I did marry my boss.
Tell us about your BMTG journey so far…
I joined BMTG for their production of Jekyll and Hyde so TMM is only my second show with the group. I am loving performing with everyone and cannot wait to show what we have created with Millie.
Why did you choose to stay with BMTG after Jekyll?
BMTG are more than a musical theatre group, they are a wonderful family who have made me feel so welcome. That’s why I stayed for Millie and auditioned for Urinetown.
What is your favourite musical?
What a difficult question because I love so many! If I have to choose then Miss Saigon and Billy Elliot as they both have such great stories to tell.
What would your dream musical role be?
My dream role would be Miss Hannigan from Annie as she is such a fun character. I would also quite like to play Rose from Gypsy as there are so many sides to her.
