Guys and Dolls
Guys and Dolls was performed in 1997.
Set in colourful 1950's New York, in a world of Broadway, night-clubs and gambling, this show celebrated 30 years since the formation of Beeston Operatic Society.
Nathan Detroit is trying to find a safe home for the "oldest established, permanent, floating crap-game in New York". To raise the fee for the only location he can he find, he persuades newcomer Sky Masterson to make an unwilling bet. Sky bets that he can persuade beautiful, but icy, Sister Sarah, of the Salvation Army, to go to dinner with him in Havana - and with a promise of a mission full of sinners to the Army, if he succeeds. Nathan is also having bad luck with his girlfriend, nightclub chanteuse Adelaide, who is rue that her perpetual cold is caused by Nathan's failure to marry her. On her return from Havana, Sarah find the mission full of gamblers. Assuming that this was the purpose of her trip, she orders Sky away.
The crap game takes place in the sewers. Sky wins, and orders the losers to the mission as his promised fistful of sinners. Sarah and Adelaide confer, and decide to marry their men, faults and all, and change them later. The final scene reveals that they have done exactly that!
