Viva Mexico at Beeston Carnival
In an effort to publicise BMTG's production of Viva Mexico and raise the profile of the group within the local community, a group of members, involved in Viva Mexico, along with their children, joined the Beeston Carnival this year.
A carnival in Beeston has not taken place for many many years and the turn out on the day was great with over 12 different groups being involved, including dance companies, cheerleaders, Star Wars societies and church groups, as well as ourselves.
The sun was shining and we joined the procession, lead by the Beeston Pipe Band, that went down the main high street to the new park in Broadgate. It was a great turn out by the locals and we managed to give away over 500 flyers for the production in October, Hopefully that will sell more tickets and we can look forward to another sell out production.
We were dressed in our Mexican costumes with Luis Ogando and Dan Bates playing Guitars and the rest of us playing our percussion instrument and singing along as we proceeded through Beeston.
We ended up at the park giving an informal rendition of La Cucaracha to the clapping and cheering crowds who then visited the various tombola and games stralls set up by the different societies and groups involved in the carnival.
A great day was had by all and a huge publicity success for us with our photos being published in various newspapers and hundreds of people knowing just who BMTG are!
We are hoping to take part in the Stapleford Carnival in September so look out for us there!
In the meantime, below are some of the photos taken during the carnival and the video is above.
