How We Work
The Group consists of Members (acting and non-acting) and Patrons and is run by a central Committee. The current committee is as follows:
Chairman - Stuart Veitch
Vice-Chairman - Jane Hough
Treasurer - Jane Cottee
Secretary - Martin Holtom
Publicity Officer - Catherine Furber
Promotions Officer - Jouni Soininen
Social Secretary - Luis Ogando
Patrons & Subscriptions Secretary - Mike Cottee
Society Representatives - Lisa Smith & Mina Machin
The Society's President is Stephen Randall Lewis and the Vice-President is David Hinchliffe.
The Society is non-profit making and a registered charity. Money to put on concerts and shows comes from a number of sources - Members and Patrons fees, ticket sales, grants and donations.
Every year the Group puts on a show and, approximately 6 months afterwards, a series of concerts are performed. We get regular press coverage and superb reviews.
BMTG is a member of NODA, the National Operatic and Dramatic Society - more details are available by clicking here.
Being Social
Other than its singing, BMTG is well known for its friendliness and a lot of social activities are arranged. There are no regular activities, apart from an annual Dinner Dance in the latter part of the year. Other activities in the past include tobogganing (or "hurtling down a steep hill on a chrome slide"), a Barn Dance, barbecues, trips to see other shows, quizzes, sponsored swimming, etc. Every Christmas we also go carol singing and raise money for charity. Money made from the other social activities goes towards the Group's funds.
As a group of friends we often take part in social activities that are not arranged by BMTG - house warming, movie evenings, etc. We are particularly well known for our parties!
Being Charitable
The Society, as well as being a registered charity, does what it can for other charities - both "regular" charities and new ones in current need (for example, the fund to rebuild the Duchess Theatre). Special concerts, proceeds from social events and one-off donations go towards such funds. We even collect used stamps for RNIB - if you would like to donate to this then please pass your stamps onto a member.
